Andy Warhol
I think that Warhol's work as an artist is one of the most important landmarks
in modern art for several reasons. First the idea of repetition (first hinted at
when Marcel Duchamp was struck by the absurdity of
the "pop" versions of the Mona Lisa) that we are used to in this time, at the
time when Warhol was working the idea of "media blitz" didn't even have
a name. Much of his genius was to recognize that much of the imagry that
we are surrounded with has no MESSAGE other than itself.
