Asside from being one of the first ab-ex painters, her main
contribution to art was to keep Jackson Pollock centered to
the extent that she could so that he could do her work.
(ahh, err) in my oppinion, it was just as well, for it seems to
me that her work had stagnated and that she was still
"stuck in cubism" (and believe me I know how painful *that*
can be ;). As she nurtured, marketed, consoled, and fought
with Jackson, it gave her (i think) time to develop her own
style. Near the end of Jackson's own self-destruction, he
had pretty much burned out on what he had to say in terms
of the 3-d drip painting, and was at that v. discouraging time
when we have "lost our way, and see nothing left, but the
abyss". Her work was *finally* making real progress -- she
had distilled down and brought forth what was to BE ab-ex.
At the same time, he became more and more despondent.

daylight, with teers in my eyes, "Thanks, Ed")
